M COMMERCIAL FIRE ALARMS
M Classification:
- A BS5839 M system will not have any automatic detectors.
- Manual call points would be installed on all openings to fresh air and change of levels.
- Sounders would be installed throughout the building to achieve a minimum of 65dB of sound level (or 75dB at a bedhead if there is a sleeping risk). Sound would need to be 5dB above ambient noise up to a maximum of 120dB or flashing beacons would need to be fitted if this can not be achieved.

Typically used in:
- Common places of work, such as offices, shops, factories, warehouses and restaurants.
- Large public houses with no residential accommodation.
- Schools, other than small single storey schools with less than 160 pupils.
- Small places of assembly or small venues (e.g. accommodating less than 300 persons).
