L4 COMMERCIAL FIRE ALARMS
L4 Classification:
- A BS5839 L4 system will only have automatic detectors on the escape routes.
- Manual call points would be installed on all openings to fresh air and change of levels.
- Sounders would be installed throughout the building to achieve a minimum of 65dB of sound level (or 75dB at a bedhead if there is a sleeping risk). Sound would need to be 5dB above ambient noise up to a maximum of 120dB or flashing beacons would need to be fitted if this can not be achieved.
Typically used in:
- Schools, other than small single storey schools with less than 160 pupils.
- Places of assembly (e.g. cinemas, theatres, nightclubs, exhibition halls, museums and galleries, leisure centres and casinos).
- Premises in which fire could readily spread from an unoccupied area and prejudice means of escape from occupied areas.
