L3 COMMERCIAL FIRE ALARMS
L3 Classification:
- A BS5839 L3 system will have automatic detectors on every escape route and in every room off the escape route. It will not have detection in rooms that are self contained within a larger room.
- Manual call points would be installed on all openings to fresh air and change of levels.
- Sounders would be installed throughout the building to achieve a minimum of 65dB of sound level (or 75dB at a bedhead if there is a sleeping risk). Sound would need to be 5dB above ambient noise up to a maximum of 120dB or flashing beacons would need to be fitted if this can not be achieved.
Typically used in:
- Covered shopping centres.
- Residential care premises.
- Phased evacuation buildings.
- Places of assembly (e.g. cinemas, theatres, nightclubs, exhibition halls, museums and galleries, leisure centres and casinos).
